Shirley Ann Tipton – Gate City, VA

Shirley Ann Tipton, 71, Gate City, VA, passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at her residence.

Shirley was born in Sullivan County, TN, on April 6, 1951, to the late John Henry Elliott and Rachel Dockery.

Along with her parents, her infant brother John Elliott, and Bill Elliott preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Pat Tipton; daughters, Cynthia Tipton, and Amber Spivey (Terry); sisters, Glenna Cross (Russell), Nan Quillen, and Peggy Edens (Larry); brothers, Fred Elliott (Esta), Johnny Elliott, and Gary Elliott (Janice); grandchildren, Cody Davidson (Emily), Autumn Davidson, Teresa Phillips (Carlton), and Ariel Spivey; and great-grandchildren, Skyla, Tobias, Ansley, Kian, Abel, and Nixxon.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Edens and Pastor David Grubb officiating; along with a eulogy provided by Gary Elliott. Allison Lewis will provide the music.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.

Cody Davidson, Tim Tipton, Greg Tipton, Wayne Elliott, Nathan Elliott, and Brandon Hensley will serve as pallbearers. Scott Hensley and Ricky Tipton will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family of Shirley Ann Tipton wishes to send special thanks to Dr. Jamal Maatouk, Shirley Davis, and the nurses at Regional Cancer Center; HMG Hospitalist Dr. Eric Schwartz and Elite Hospice; Mountain Region Physical Therapist Scottie Watts; Peggy Edens, Lauren Griffin, and Carol Ann Brown; and her canine companion, Cocoa, whose love for Shirley was unwavering.

Watching someone you love transition out of this life is a difficult thing, but the family gratefully acknowledges the care, comfort, kindness, and love extended to Shirley by those and others as she peacefully prepared for her crossover.
