Roger Glen Shelton, Sr., 71, Kingsport, TN went to be with our Lord and Savior, Monday, July 29, 2013 at Brookhaven Manor in Kingsport, TN.
Mr. Shelton was born in Scott County, VA on November 27, 1941 to the late Herbert L. and Nettie Easterling Shelton.
Roger was a member of Crossway Baptist Church, Gate City, VA. He was also an ordained Deacon and loved getting to go to church.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, H. Luther Shelton, Jr. and Donald Lewis Shelton preceded him in death.
Roger is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Shelton; daughter, Kimberly Anne Allison and husband, Paul; sons, Roger Glen Shelton, Jr. and wife, Michelle, and Thomas Scot Shelton and wife, Sheila; brothers, Charles Shelton, Hagan Shelton and Darrel Shelton; grandchildren, Glory Allison Cumbow and husband, Andy, Bethany Allison, Brooke, Tyler, Levi, Savanah and Luke Shelton; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends that he loved to coon hunt and play rook with.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Aaron Edens and Rev. Paul Allison officiating. Crossway Baptist Church Singers will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at the Shelton/Winegar Cemetery in Yuma, VA by America Legion Post 265 and Post 3, along with members of the VA National Guard. Levi Shelton, Tyler Shelton, Danny Crawford, Brandon Hensley, Lane Newsome and Jeff Bishop will serve as pallbearers. Charles Bishop, Norman Sloan and Rob Sharpe will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Crossway Baptist Church, 175 Church Street, Weber City, VA, 24290.
