Billie Doris Shelton, 80, Gate City, VA died at the Brian Center early October 17, 2011 after a brief illness.
Billie was born to William Harvey Haynes and Bertie Gladys Jones Haynes on April 27, 1931. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School and spent 38 years at the Kingsport Press (Arcadia) in composition and as a supervisor the last 14 years.
She was a member of Oak Glen Baptist Church, Yuma, VA and Rebekah Lodge #86 of Gate City, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey C. Stapleton, and late husband, Willard Smith Shelton and several cousins.
Surviving is her sister, Virginia Nataleen Craft and husband, Wilbur; nephew, Steven Anthony Fields, and wife, Angie; niece, Lesa Ann Phillips and husband, Bryan; step nephew, W.C. Craft, II and wife, Pat; step nieces, Sharon Castle, and Maxie Dixon and husband, Danny, which she loved as her own.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Mike Herron, Darrell Lane, Wallace Lane, Verbie Morgan, and Ronnie Jones will serve as pallbearers.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Home Health Services, Lencare, Brian Center, Drs. Tumker and Delwadia, and the Scott County Lifesaving Crew for their care of Mrs. Shelton.
