Shelby Jean Owens – Mt. Carmel, TN

Shelby Jean Owens, 83, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her sister’s residence.

Shelby was born in Scott County, VA, on May 5, 1939, to the late Dewey Verbal and Lizzie (Kilgore) Verbal.

Along with her parents, her first husband, Thurman Weeks; second husband, Jack Owens; infant son; sister, Jearline Houck; and brothers, Ival, Jay, Cecil, and Troy preceded her in death.

Shelby is survived by her sister Catherine and James Davis, Mt. Carmel, TN; brother, Darrell Verbal (Mary), Nickelsville, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Danny Sykes officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
