Helen Justine Shaffer, 85, entered into rest Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Life Care Center of Gray.
She was born in Scott County, VA December 10, 1922 to the late Washington Clint Leonard and Bernice Larkey. Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Shaffer; one sister, Pauline Shaffer and one brother, Gerald E. Leonard.
She was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Kay Adkins, Kingsport, TN; two sons, Richard Shaffer and wife, Teresa, Lynn Shaffer, Sr. and wife, Ann, all of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Leigh Ann Faulkner, Whitney Adkins, Richard Alexander Shaffer, Leslie Brooke Shaffer, Lynn Shaffer, Jr., Josh Shaffer, Sara Shaffer, Mark Shaffer, Andy Cash, Christopher Cash; sister, Doris Pearman, Bristol, VA; brothers, Maurice Leonard, Kingsport, TN, Larry J. Leonard, Jonesborough, TN and Ray Leonard, Hiltons, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ken Pierce officiating. Music will be provided by Ken Pierce and wife.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ms. Shaffer's honor to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, in care of Denise Harris, 289 Echo Lane, Gate City, VA 24251.
