Gate City, VA – Ransome Scalf, 88, entered into rest October 12, 2009 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born in Kyles Ford, TN June 6, 1921 to the late Don and Buna Ketron Scalf . Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nella Bledsoe Scalf; daughters, Gladys Barker and Lynna Hall Scalf; five sisters, Della Bledsoe, Nellie Sturgill, Verda Burke, Mary Hammonds and Martha Berry; three brothers, Lloyd, Marshall and Eckel Scalf. Mr. Scalf served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Loraine and Roger Brooks, Gate City, VA, Carolyn and Marvin Griffin, Manassas, VA, Wilma and Leland Compton, Gate City, VA; six sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil and Dulsie Scalf, FL, Gerald Scalf, Huston, TX, Larry and Jean Scalf, Culpepper, VA, Malcom Scalf, Gate City, VA, Leon and Regina Scalf, Kingsport, TN, Vanus and Cathy Scalf, Gate City, VA; one sister, Bertha Wright, St. Augustine, FL; 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; special friend, Nannie Jones; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Ransome Scalf. Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Allen Hensley and Rev. Jerry Scalf officiating. Music will be provided by Patsy Hensley and Wanda Johnson.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
The family will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
