Harvey Wellington Sandidge, Jr.
Gate City, VA ? Harvey Wellington Sandidge, Jr., 86, entered into rest Friday, September 19, 2008 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Scott County, VA to the late Harvey W. Sandidge, Sr. and Fannie Ben Hodges Sandidge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Harvey (Chuck) Sandidge, and brothers, Billy Joe Sandidge and Early Clinton Sandidge.
He was a member of Gate City United Methodist Church and retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after 46 years.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Fraley Sandidge, Gate City, VA; daughters, Jane Ann Sandidge, Gate City, VA and Cathy Louise Sandidge, Gate City, VA; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Sandidge, Kingsport, TN; sister, Patsy Sandidge Blackwell and brother-in-law, Richard Blackwell, Sr., Kingsport, TN; daughter-in-law, Patti Sandidge Grills, Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Ruth Fraley Buchanan, Benham, KY; brother-in-law, John Tase Fraley, Dungannon, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Brown officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery for the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Gilbert Smith, Mike Brickey, Tony Grills, Gene Buchanan, Jason Buchanan, Stanley Rogers and Marc Ball.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rufus Miller, Harry Penley, Willie Draper, and Paul Blessing.
Gate City Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Sandidge family.
