Richard Lynn Russell, 54, Weber City, VA passed away, Friday, October 19, 2012 at Kindred Hospital, Chattanooga, TN after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.
Richard was born in Sullivan County, TN on April 7, 1958 to Mattie Jane Herron Russell and the late Wallace Lonzo Russell.
He was a retired investigator with the Scott County Sheriff's Department as head of the Drug Taskforce with 24 years of service.
In addition to his father, his paternal grandmother, Ada Frances Russell; maternal grandparents, Elijah and Rosa Mae Winegar Herron; uncles, Otis Herron, Cecil Herron, and Alfred Herron; and aunt, Thelma Herron preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Russell, Clinchport, VA; granddaughter, Katelyn Danielle Russell, Clinchport, VA; mother, Mattie Jane Herron Russell, Weber City, VA; sister, Rebecca Russell Young and husband, Tracy, Weber City, VA; niece, Stephanie Falin and husband, David, Kingsport, TN; step grandchildren, Nicholas Kyle Bentley, Courtney Bowen, Cabrini Bowen, and Mia Bowen; great nephew, Luke Falin; his special companion, Cookie; special friend, Judy France, Kingsport, TN; along with several aunts and cousins and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 26, 2012 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Carroll Foster and Rev. Ed Blair officiating. Scott Spangler will provide the music.
Burial will follow at the Page Cemetery in Robinette Valley of Scott County, VA. Christopher Russell, Ed Henry, Phillip Lane, Willie Dockery, Jeff Thacker, Terry Sivert, and David Falin will serve as pallbearers. Don Arnold, Terry Kilgore, Jerry Kilgore, Bo Taylor, Mike Carrico, and Jerry Broadwater will serve as honorary pallbearers.
