Fannie Vanzant. Russell, who would have been 70 years old on October 29, 2016, passed away on October 6, 2016.
She retired from Eastman Chemical Co. and had done substitute teaching in the Scott County School System.
Fannie was a very giving person and was known for her chocolate turtles that she often made. She would start making candy in October to make sure that she had enough gifts for her friends, nurses and doctors as well as her family.
Preceding her in death, just five weeks ago, is Charles Douglas Russell, the love of her life. They were high school sweethearts and had been married for 48 years.
Also preceding her in death is her parents, Burlie and Edna Vanzant; sisters, Georgia McMillian and Ada Woliver; and brothers, James Vanzant and Rufus Vanzant.
Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Shelby Jean Lynch, Knoxville, TN and a special sister, Judy Hensley, who spent every day with her. They laughed, cried and enjoyed talking about childhood memories; a special nephew, Shane Hensley; two special sister in laws, Marsha (Henry) Helton and Kathie (Charles) Noe who made her last days easier just by being there and three “fur babies”, Daisy Mae, Reece and Sassy who she enjoyed so much.
Also, left to cherish her memory are special friends, Charlie and Brenda Robinette and neighbors, Gary and Lucille McMurray, Melissa and Dwight Joyner, Louise Blankenbeckler, Louella Pendleton, Ron and Helen Mosley, and Doris and Johnny Price.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Layton Bentley officiating. A eulogy will be given by her nephew, Pastor Aaron Noe. Gary Adkins Family Singers will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Henry Helton, Charles Noe, Gary McMurray, Charlie Robinette, Craig Bogan, Jason Howell, Eddie Vineyard, Jarrod Vineyard and Ron Mosley will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00 p. m., Sunday to go in procession to the graveside service.
