Kelly Ray Roberts, 71, Duffield, VA. went home to be with the Lord August 28, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Roberts was born August 23, 1938 a son of the late Homer Roberts and Alberta Bishop Roberts.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Lee Roberts and a sister, Mary Maya.
Mr. Roberts was of the Baptist faith and attended the Old Midway Baptist Church. Kelly loved doing woodwork and was an excellent hand at making Jerky for his friends.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years and 7 months is Gladys Roberts of the home.
Three children, a son, Larry and Sandy Roberts, Kingsport, TN., daughters, Rhonda and Michael Gilliam, Duffield, VA. and Donna and Dale Townsend also of Duffield, VA. Six grandchildren, Jennifer and Benny Stanley, Jr., Gate City, VA., Brittany and Brandon Lemmons, Kingsport, TN., Amanda and Patrick Johnson, Nickelsville, VA., David and "Charly" Gilliam Duffield, VA., Dustin and Mandi Townsend, Duffield, VA. and Danny Townsend, Duffield, VA.
Seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Carrico, Haley and Emily Lemmons, Abany, Ella Anna and Natalee Johnson and Alexa Townsend. Three brothers, Roy and Anna Bell Roberts, William "Buddy" Roberts both of Clinchport, VA., and Randy and Debra Roberts of Weber City, VA. Three sisters, Ona Poole, Gate City, VA., Judy and Sam Poole, Gate City, VA. and Helen "Susie" and Frank Malone, Kingsport, TN.
Several nieces, nephews and a special friend, Pat Neeley.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home and any time at the residence.
Services will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 at 12 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Denny Hass and Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. Music will be provided by Working Toward the Promise Singers.
Burial will follow the service Monday, August 31, 2009 at Goode Cemetery, Clinchport, VA. David Gilliam, Dustin Townsend, Danny Townsend, Brandon Carrico, Brandon Lemmons, Patrick Johnson and Adam Justice will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Lisa, Patsy, and Susie of the Wellmont Hospice Care.
