Wrightly Junior Rhoton, 82, Gate City, VA (Manville community) went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 3, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Rhoton was a lifelong resident of Gate City and was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1959. He worked at Foote Mineral Company, Bays Mountain Construction Company and retired from Eastman Kodak Company in 1987 after 28 years of service.
He was born on May 15, 1931 to the late Dan and Laura Darnell Rhoton.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Betty Bishop and Pauline Jones; nephew, Wayne Poe; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lorn and Mae Musick Ervin; brother-in-law, Harry Ervin; and sister-in-law, Patsy Carter preceded him in death.
Wrightly was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed doing things for his family and taking care of them and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Ervin Rhoton, Gate City, VA; daughters, Kathy Smith and husband, Dale, Patricia Frazier and husband, Lester, grandchildren, Justin Smith and wife, Michele, Rusty Smith and companion, Lori Fields, Jamie Frazier and companion, Trevor Bishop, and Mark Frazier; his great grandchildren, Jacob Darnell, Rhiannon Bishop, Brooklyn Smith, Bryson Smith, Brayden Smith, Cole Smith, and Hayden Smith; sister, Barbara Dishner, brother-in-law, Coy Jones; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Danny Sykes and Brother Justin Smith officiating. Lisa Quillen and the Oak Glen Singers will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.
Rusty Smith, Mark Frazier, Jack Jones, Jacob Darnell, Lester Frazier, Danny Poe, and Greg Dishner will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Bryan Arnette, Dr. Fadi Abu-Shanhin, Dr. Eric Schwartz, the nurses and staff on the 6th floor of Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, and to the nurses and staff on the 3rd floor of Wilcox Hall for their care of our loved one during his illness.
