Mr. Walter Rhoton, 89, Gate City, VA passed away, Monday, December 3, 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Rhoton was born in Scott County, VA on May 29, 1923 to the late Daniel Jackson and Laura Alice Johnson Rhoton. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He and his wife, Ruth were the owners and operators of the Style Shop in Gate City, VA for over 40 years. He was retired from Eastman Kodak in 1985.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Ruth Bellamy Rhoton; brothers, Carl J. Rhoton and Maurice Calvin; and brother-in-law, Bill Calhoun preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother, Rufus Rhoton, Weber City, VA; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Kilgore and husband, John H., Gate City, VA, Betty J. Pendleton and husband, C.E., Gate City, VA, Phyllis Williams and husband, Fred, Gate City, VA, Rosie Calhoun, Gate City, VA, Ruth Rhoton, Church Hill, TN, Lola Rhoton McDuff, Kingsport, TN, and Nancy Bellamy; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Millard Porter and Dr. Cecil Sturgill officiating. The Tabernacle Baptist Choir will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the Boone Dam Post #4933 of the V.F.W. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Millard Porter, Ray Sanders, Doug Musick, Sam Hagy, and Tom Davenport will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church in memory of Walter Rhoton.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m., Thursday to go in procession to the graveside service.
