James W. Rhoton – Duffield, VA
Mr. James W. Rhoton, 80, Duffield, VA passed away, Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Rhoton was born in Scott County, VA on January 3, 1931, son of the late Millard and Nellie Bishop Rhoton Bowling. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired from the service department of Courtesy Chevrolet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Hensley and great granddaughter, Emily Akers; and brothers, Harrison and Mercer Rhoton.
Surviving is his wife Ruth Rhoton, Duffield, VA; daughters, Peggy Orndorff and husband, Allan, Renick, W VA, and Sandy Luna and husband, Frank, Chesterfield, VA; son, Ricky Rhoton and wife, Patsy, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Brittany Rhoton, Michael Hensley, James Luna, and Travis Akers; great grandchildren, Brady Hensley, Cory Hensley, Katlin Akers, Mattie Hunley, and Sophie Akers; sister, Marie Rhoton and husband, J.M.; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Johnny Duncan and the Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. The Ferrymen will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011 by the American Legion Hammond Post # 3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard at the Free Cemetery, Natural Tunnel, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Amos Rhoton, Charles Rhoton, J.M. Rhoton, Fred Carico, and Bruce Rhoton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
