Rev. James Edward Smith

Rev. James E. Smith- Gate City, VA

Rev. James E. Smith went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with the love of his life, Charlotte, on December 27, 2023. He passed at his home surrounded by his children.

He was born on January 13, 1937, in Scott County, VA, to the late Leonard and Clara Smith.

Jim was a member of Moores Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Charlotte Taylor Smith; daughter, Cathy Gillenwater; son, Terry Smith; son-in-law, Johnnie Culbertson; and several other sisters and brothers preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jenny Culbertson, and Lisa (Tim) Frazier; sons, Jerry (Donna) Smith, Jeff (Debbie) Smith, Ricky (Joyce) Smith, and James “Knobby” (Verna) Smith; daughter-in-law, Brenda Smith; son-in-law, Darrell Gillenwater; sister, Merill Phillips; brothers, Bill (Jane) Smith, and Johnnie (Mitzi) Smith; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; special sisters-in-law, Linda and Beulah Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, with Rev. Jackie Frazier officiating. Greg and Becky White will provide the music.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
