Herbert Charles Reese 78, Kingsport, TN. Entered into rest July 9, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the Brian Center where he received excellent care.
Mr. Reese was born in Sullivan County, TN on April 27, 1933, son of the late Roy Hop and Stella Pearlee Willis Reese.
Herbert retired from Generals Motors in Flint, MI as a Quality Controller after more than 30 years.
He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served in the Korean Conflict. He was in active duty more than six years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a precious daughter Pamela Eileen Reese July 29, 1970 at the age of seven; a loving son, Jerry Lee Reese July 21, 2003; two sisters Elizabeth Lane and Lucy Mcnutt; a mother-in-law, Iva Bell Davis Hammonds whom he dearly loved; a nephew, Walter "Jr." Lane; and a brother-in-law, Robert Lee Pierson he loved as a brother.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Eileen Hammonds Reese; his son Michael S. Reese of Grand Traverse, MI; granddaughter Meagan Renee Hildabridle and husband Mason of Grand Traverse, MI; grandson, Michael J. Reese, U.S. Marine of San Diego, CA; and a special niece, Barbara McClellan Franklin; and nephew, Harold Quillen, who was always there to lend a helping hand for us when we needed someone.
Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July, 11, 2011 at Gate City Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Military Honors at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will meet at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Military graveside service will be conducted by American Legion Kingsport Hammond Post 3 and Gate City Post 265 and Virginia National Guard.
