Doris France Spivey Rasnake
Doris France Spivey Rasnake, 96, died on Saturday February 1, 2020 after a brief illness.
She lived in Kingsport most of her life and retired from the Kingsport Press.
Doris was born on May 31, 1923 in Manville, VA to the late Melvin Milo France and Roma McDavid France. She was the 5th of 11 children. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene B. Spivey; her husband, Ralph Rasnake; son-in-law, Phillip Tomlinson; sisters, Minnie Williams, Rosa Williams, and Eva Hart; half-sisters, Norma Pendleton, Rena Templeton, and Kate Hart; brothers Kenneth, Robert, Willard, Bascom, George, and Fred; half-brothers Clifton and Daniel.
Doris, also known as “Mamie” by her grandchildren, enjoyed a full and happy life of 96 years and 8 months. She was a loving mother and wife, who found pleasure in giving and doing for others. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, knitting, and crocheting. She made over 100 quilts and loved giving them to others. She will be remembered for her love for God, her family, and her friends. Always ready to help someone in need.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Judy (Sherwin) Sumner, Agnes (Bill) Good; her sons, Wayne (Kay) Spivey and Franklin (Betty) Spivey; 3 granddaughters; 1 grandson; six great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Benton (Catherine) Rasnake; best friend for 80 years, Alma Lee Spivey and sister Alma Lynch.
A graveside service will be held on Monday February 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Holston View Cemetery with Rev. Lennis France officiating. The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral from 12:00-1:30 p.m., prior to going to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Spivey, Randy Bennett, Brad Coffman, Jimmy Williams, Emerson Williams, and Marvin Tipton.
