Hubert Ramey – Ft. Blackmore, VA
James Hubert Ramey, 88, Ft. Blackmore, VA passed away, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Hubert was born in Scott County, VA on August 28, 1927. He was the son of the late Luther and Edna Dockery Ramey.
He was a member and Deacon of Bishop Memorial Baptist Church in Alley Valley, VA.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Annie K. Frazier Ramey; sons, Roy Ramey, Coy Ramey, and Elmer Ramey; and brothers, John Ramey and Conrad Lee Ramey preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Freddie Ramey and wife, Tammy, Kingsport, TN; daughters, Daisy R. Elkins and husband, Ron, Church Hill, TN; Jane R. McConnell and husband, Jeff, Gate City, VA, and Faye and Jimmy Qualls, Duffield, VA; sisters, Gracie Lane and husband, James, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Katie Ingle and husband, Denver, St. Paul, VA, and Janice Sutherland and husband, Roy, Kingsport, TN; brothers, Lonnie Junior Ramey and wife, Myrtle, Ft. Blackmore, VA and William Paul “Bim” Ramey and wife, Roma, Gate City, VA; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and his first great great grandchild, Keegan Bird, who is due to arrive in April; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Tammy Ramey. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Garnie Snavely officiating. A eulogy will be given by Rev. Darrell Hurd. The Hammonds Family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Cox’s Chapel Cemetery, Duffield, VA. Clifford Ramey, Christopher Ramey, Ricky Hill, Jeff McNew, Tyler Williams, Carl Davenport, and William “Bim” Ramey will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to thank his special friends, Darrell and Margaret Hurd; the nurses on the 3rd floor of Wilcox Hall; Nova Healthcare and Rehab, and Wellmont Hospice for their loving care of their Dad.
