Albert J. Ramey died unexpectedly on July 14 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born August 12, 1927 in Dungannon, VA where he grew up. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1951 where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He married Louise Greer the week after his graduation. He graduated as an officer and served in the Coast and Geodetic Survey for 5 years. While serving, he and his wife lived in St Petersburg, Fl, Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, and Newport RI. He subsequently worked as a civil engineer for the Soil Conservation Service in Harrisonburg, VA and Raleigh, NC before settling in Richmond, VA where they lived for 45 years. He was a master gardener and enjoyed being in nature. He was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. He and his wife moved to Hanover, NH in 2011 to be near his older daughter and her family. While living in New Hampshire, he was delighted to be living in part of the same Appalachian Mountains in which he grew up.

Louise Greer Ramey, his wife of 62 years, preceded him in death by 5 weeks.

He is survived his daughters Sharon Ramey Weaver of Hanover, NH and Ruth Ann Ramey Ross of Nags Head, NC as well as two granddaughters: Eleanor Weaver of Nashville, TN and Claire Weaver of Williamsburg, VA.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Graveside service to follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
