Carrie Raby, 88, born March 1, 1921, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on April 17, 2009 at home with family and friends by her side, after an extended illness.
She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Smith Raby. Two sons, Jerry Mack Raby and Bobby Eugene Raby; mother, Sallie Ramey and father, Mitchell Ramey; sister, Nannie Walker; four brothers, William Hobert Ramey, Clyde Ramey, Curtis Ramey and Kyle Ramey.
She is survived by one daughter, Francis Marie Russell, Gate City, VA; two sons, Freddie Barney Raby and wife, Dollie Marie Raby, of the home, Willie Calvin Ramey and wife, Pauline Ramey, Ft. Blackmore, VA; eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; very special friends, Carolyn and Danny Pierson, Dinah and Alvin Bays.
The family would like to give special thanks to Wellmont Hospice and a very special thanks to Misty D. Venett, Joanne "Josie" Jackson and Angie Browning and would like to thank Dr. Lauren Franlin at Holston Medical Group.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at her residence. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Kiser and Rev. Buford Blankenbeckler officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Carter Cemetery, Stanleytown Community.
The family will meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Raby, Allen Raby, Henry Kerns, Danny Pierson, Tony Gibson and James Gibson.
