Marge Quillen – Gate City, VA
Our amazing mother entered into peaceful rest Wednesday, November 26, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family and amidst the prayers of her friends as together we released our angel back into the arms of God with the same unconditional love and grace by which she was lent to us 73 years ago. We will live the next 73 years and beyond deeply touched and forever inspired by her presence in our lives and paying forward her every act of kindness for the love of her fellow man.
Her life’s work includes the last 14 years spent in dedication to the Hope House of Scott County, VA in many capacities and most recently as executive director; 14 years of service at Kingsport Times-News as an information correspondent and weddings writer as well as military service in the U.S. Army WAC Co. Special Troops at Fort Hood, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Jack “Little Jeep” Quillen; a son, Barney Jerry Barnes; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Quillen; and a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Teresa Grace Rollison.
She is the sister of Doreen Hornfeck and husband, R on of West Mifflin, PA, SueAnn Banducci and husband, Ron of Danville, CA, Michael Wilson and wife, Linda of Laverne, CA, Linda Merschat of North Versailles, PA, and William Wilson and wife, Colette of Greensburg, PA.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, love, and charity in four daughters; Laura Quillen (Jeff Fain) of Kingsport, Cindy Quillen Rollison and husband, Joe of Christiansburg, VA, Lisa Quillen (Bill Loyd) of Bristol, VA, and Barbara Quillen (Michael Coleman) of Gate City, VA; 11 grandchildren, Jacob Donelson and wife, Nikki, Michella Eldridge, Matthew Barker, Kristen Rollison Floyd and husband, Daniel, Bryr Donelson and Amber De-hart, GCFD 328 Logan McCracken and Kady Quillen, U.S. Army 2LT Ryan Shoemaker, Jennalea Dockery and Sam Stipes, Cody Donelson, Jessica King, and Emily Rollison; 13 great grandchildren, Breanna, Josh, David , Aaliyah, Abbi, Karson, Micah, Kaylee, Brentley, Kara, Lucas, Adalyn , and Maycie; special nephews, Joseph Pellecchia and Mike and Ken Hornfeck; many more nieces, nephews, and special friends Ann Jones, Pam Barnett, Barbara Buchanan, Anna Fields, Jackie Moore, Marie Starnes, Pat Booth, Michelle Hensley, Ina Pierson, Susie Looney, Sandra Woods, Louise Blankenbeckler, Angie Thompson, Anita Baker, Tina Gose,Dorothy Bishop, Pansy Darnell, Dan Gymreck, Ruby Rogers, Father Roland Hautz, Dr. Charlene Grigsby, Mitzi Musick FNP, Larry Stallard, Sherry Wilson, Rececca Coleman, Rhonda Hamm, Jeff Spicer, Libby Cornett, and Rita Keen.
The family would like to extend their humble gratitude to those who collaborated in the effort to end domestic violence throughout the years alongside Hope House of Scott County, VA, Gate City Fire Department, Scott County Sherriff’s Office, Scott County Life Saving Crew, Gate City Police Department, Weber City Police Department, Scott County 911, Town of Gate City, Speedway Children’s Charities, the legal and social service systems of Scott County and their entities, and the community at large for their support through monetary and in-kind donations, volunteer hours and patronage at DanPaul Closet Hearts of Hope Resale Shop.
Family and friends will be received to celebrate her life from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home with services to follow in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Jackie McCracken officiating.
Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA conducted by the American Legion Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
In honor of our mother’s years of dedication and service to end domestic violence, the family requests all who are willing to wear some form of purple.
