Olinthus Quillen, Jr., Gate City, VA
Joseph Olinthus Quillen, Jr.,87, of Gate City, VA passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Holston Valley Hospital.
He was born in Scott County, VA on November ,11 1931 to the late Joseph Olinthus Quillen, Sr and Ida (Price) Quillen. He is also preceded in death by wife and love of his life, Wanda Curtis Quillen (2012).
After his graduation from Shoemaker High School, he joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict
.
As an electrician by trade, Olinthus worked in many states before his retirement from I.B.E.W. # 934.
He had a profound love for his family and God, and faithfully attended Red Hill Church until his declining health prevented him from doing so. In his later life, he enjoyed reading his Bible every day.
Olinthus leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Joe Quillen and wife Christine, Gate City, VA; grandchildren, Emily Davidson and husband Cody, Isaac Quillen, and great-grandson, Abel Davidson.
The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p. m, and other times at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Elder Vernon McDavid and Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Travis Taylor, Chris Davidson, Jason Davidson, Todd Pendleton, Isaac Quillen, and Tucker Gray will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Paul Smith, James Jones, Jim Coley, Cody Davidson, Milburn Hall, Charlie Gray, and a very special Honorary Pallbearer, Abel Davidson.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday morning by 9:00 a.m., to go in procession to the cemetery.
