Mr. Fred J. Quillen, 88, Dungannon, VA passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Quillen was born in Scott County, VA on December 10, 1923 to the late Everson Charles and Hettie Richmond Quillen. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary Wanda Peters Quillen, and sisters, Violettia Quillen McClellan and Fern Quillen preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son, Perry Charles Quillen and wife, Gena, Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Dustin Quillen, Lindsey Stapleton and husband, Timothy; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Sabra Collins will provide the music.
Military graveside services will follow at the Fincastle Cemetery, Dungannon, VA, conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Jimmy Sergent, Dustin Quillen, Timothy Stapleton, Billy Culbertson, Bill Culbertson, Phil Osborne, Frank Wolford, and Dave Dorton will serve as pallbearers. Eugene Burton, Jordan Peters, Lee Burton, Mikey Finch, and Sammy Brickey will serve as honorary pallbearers.
