Laura Wallen Qualls, 100 and a half years old, Kingsport, TN went to her Heavenly Home to be with her Lord and Savior; her husband, Ed, and her son, J.P., on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Qualls was born in Scott County, VA on August 16, 1912 to the late James David and Ollie Bishop Wallen.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Natural Tunnel Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Edgar (Ed) Kent Qualls; son, James Preston (J.P.) Qualls; granddaughter, Michelle Qualls; sisters, Lina McDavid, Mattie DeBord, Lovely Clendenin; and brothers, Elbert, Hiram, and Radford Wallen preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Glenda Frances Qualls Stapleton and husband, Jerry, Church Hill, TN; sons, Ronald Lee Qualls and wife, Eula, Kingsport, TN, and Kemp Edward Qualls and wife, Betty, Kingsport, TN; daughter-in-law, Louise Qualls, Duffield, VA; grandchildren, Katherine Bowen and husband Lester, Karen McDavid and husband, Sam, Brenda Miller and husband, Ted, Lisa Lane and husband, Phillip, Jeff Qualls and wife, Leah Ann, Scottie Qualls and wife, Wanda, Tina Murray and husband, Paul, Kent Qualls, Brad Qualls and wife, Emily; step grandsons, Jeremy Stapleton, and Chris Dyson and wife, April; 16 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and 7 step great great grandchildren; sisters, Bonnie Pepper, Kingsport, TN and Lucy Stacy, Blountville, TN brother, Odker (Bill) Wallen and wife, Juanita, Clinchport, VA; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Wallen, Gate City, VA and Faye Qualls, Natural Tunnel; very special family member, Gladys Qualls; special friends, Mickey Bush, Doyle Ramey, LeRoy Caudill, Donnie Herron, Gary Standifer, and Jerry Tomlinson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Ronnie and Eula Qualls, 611 Gillespie Avenue, Kingsport, TN. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Wayne Baker, Rev. Joe Hill, and Rev. Roy Lane officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Grandsons, Jeff Qualls, Scott Qualls, Kent Qualls, Brad Qualls, John Hall, Adam Qualls, Alex Qualls, and Cody McDavid will serve as pallbearers. Paul Murray, Anthony Bowen, and Scott Spears will serve as honorary pallbearers..
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
