Kemp Edward Qualls,67, Kingsport, TN went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Qualls was born in Sullivan County, TN on October 9, 1945 to the late Edgar (ED) Kent and Laura Wallen Qualls.
Kemp loved his family and his Lord. All who truly knew him, loved him.
In addition to his parents, a daughter, Michelle Qualls and a brother James Preston (J.P.) Qualls; preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Betty Dyson Qualls; his former wife, Gladys Qualls who gave him two wonderful sons, Edgar (Kent) Qualls, II, Kingsport, TN and Brad Edward Qualls and wife, Emily and one granddaughter, Kathryn Michelle Qualls, Nashville, TN; one step son, Christopher Dyson and wife, April and one step granddaughter, Ava Claire Dyson, Sugar Grove, VA; sister, Glenda Qualls Stapleton and husband, Jerry, Church Hill, TN; one brother, Ronald Lee Qualls and wife, Eula, Kingsport, TN, sister-in-law, Louise Qualls, Duffield, VA; uncle, Odker (Bill) Wallen and wife, Juanita, Rye Cove, VA; aunts, Bonnie Pepper, Kingsport, TN, Myrtle Wallen, Gate City, VA, and Faye Qualls, Duffield, VA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2013 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his brother, Ronald Qualls, Kingsport, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Wayne Baker, Rev. Joe Hill, and Rev. Roy Lane officiating. Good News and the Christianaires will provide the music.
Military Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Honor Guard at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Alex Qualls, Brad Qualls, Kent Qualls, Chris Dean, Cody McDavid, and Adam Qualls will serve as pallbearers. Michael Bush, Terry Moody, Scott Qualls, Scott Spears, Lynn Clendenin, Keith Wallen, Junior Wallen, Larry Stacy, Anthony Bowen, and John Hall will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
