Mr. Rufus Isaac Pierson, 85, Kingsport, TN passed away, Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Life Care Center, Gray, TN.
Mr. Pierson was born in Scott County, VA on January 13, 1927, son of the late Robert and Amanda Page Pierson.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Mason Dixon.
In addition to his parents, his wife of 66 years, Mimia Hensley Pierson; son, Lee Pierson; brothers, Lucian, Claude and Walter Pierson; and sisters, Vesta and Kathleen preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Poore, Kingsport, TN; sons, Eddie Pierson and wife, Jackie, Church Hill, TN, Donald Pierson, Kingsport, TN, Gary Pierson and Maggie, FL, and Teddy Pierson and Shirley, Kingsport, TN; 13 grandchidlren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jim Gibson and Rev. George Gibson officiating. The Jim Gibson Singers will provide the music.
Military graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. with American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265 providing Military Honors. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
