Pastor John Clifford Pierson — Kingsport, TN. John Clifford Pierson, 87- Went home to be with the Lord May 27, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Pastor Pierson was born in Scott County, VA. on January 18, 1923 to the late Piert Pierson and Polly Stewart Pierson. After his mother's death, Clifford was raised by the only mother he ever knew, Lottie Pierson who also precedes him in death.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Gwendolyn A. Pierson, a son-in-law, James L. Garland, a sister, Sue Dingus, an infant brother and also Bill Pierson, Kelly Pierson and Dallas Pierson.
Pastor Clifford Pierson retired from the Tennessee Eastman after 42 years and 11 months of service. He was the minister of Pendleton's Chapel Church for 7 years, Freewill Baptist Church of Natural Tunnel Church for 6 years and Starnes Bend Church for 25 years. He was a WW II Veteran- Pacific Theater.
Surviving is his wife, Blanche Applegate Pierson of the home. Daughter, Jonnie P. Garland, Kingsport, TN. Son, Timothy C. Pierson and special daughter-in-law, Karen, of Kingsport, TN., two sisters, Bertie Mullins, Kingsport, TN. and Margie Sanders of Weber City, VA., step-sons, Rodney Applegate, Ocean Springs, MS., Tom Applegate, Kingsport, TN. and Gary Applegate, Gray, TN., brothers, Autho Pierson, Kingsport, TN., Palmer "Hop" Pierson, Gate City, VA., Fred Pierson, Kingsport, TN., Mack Pierson, Ft. Blackmore, VA., and Douglas Pierson, Kingsport, TN. Grandchildren, Clifford (Cliff) James Garland, Wesley Lewis Garland, Seth Hunter Pierson and Noah Trace Pierson, 4 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 30, 2010 from 12- 2:30 p.m. at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Paul Presley officiating. Pendleton Quartet will provide the music.
Interment will follow the service in the Pierson Cemetery in Ft. Blackmore, VA with Military Graveside Rites conducted by American Legion Hammond Post #3 and the Gate City Post # 265 along with the Virginia National Guard. Pallbearers will be the men of Starnes Bend Freewill Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearer will be Grady Dockery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to Starnes Bend Freewill Baptist Church, c/o Tammy Pendleton.
