Preston Peters
Gate City, VA — Earnest Preston Peters, 72, went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 15, 2008 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Preston was born April 2, 1935 in Scott County, VA and lived most of his adult life in the Manville Community. He was the son of Bascom Peters and the late Mae Peters.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Adonolfi and Wanda Peters and his brother, Allen Peters.
He was a faithful member of Manville Holiness Church, a carpenter and a farmer. He loved the Lord, his family and was a friend to all who knew him.
Preston is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth McDavid Peters, Gate City, VA; daughters and son-in-law, Freda Lloyd, Kingsport, TN, Martha and Paul Amos, Kingsport, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Joy Peters, Kingsport, TN, Dwayne and Sandra Peters, Gate City, VA, Michael and Jennifer Peters, Fall Branch, TN;
10 grandchildren, Daniel Lloyd and wife, Carrie, Sarah Lloyd, Danielle Peters, Nathaniel and Scott Amos, Grady and Rachel Peters, Zachary Winegar, Caleb and Katelyn Peters; one great grandson, Aaron Lloyd; sisters, Dana Bowen, Gate City, VA, Mary Jo Peters, Gate City, VA, Judy Peters, Greenback, TN; brothers, Cecil and Ruth Peters, Spring Grove, PA, Claude Peters, Gate City, VA, Harlan and Velma Peters, Kingsport, TN, Gary "Bill" Peters, Hiltons, VA and Nelson and Brenda Peters, Kingsport, TN; Preston is also survived by many cousins, a host of nieces and nephews, plus many dear friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Phil Christian and Rev. Deon Turner officiating. Music will be provided by Kim and Ronnie Absher.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008 at Adams Cemetery, Manville Community of Scott County. The family will meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Preston requested that memorial contributions be made to Adams Cemetery Fund, c/o Dwayne Peters, 3706 Red Hill Road, Gate City, VA 24251 for upkeep of cemetery.
