Bert Carl Peters, 63, Duffield, VA and formerly of Ft. Blackmore, VA went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the VA Mountain Home in Johnson City, TN.
Mr. Peters was born in Scott County, VA on February 14, 1945, son of the late Corbin Henry and Nora Lane Peters. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Junior Lee Tipton.
Surviving are his sisters, Mary Inez Crabtree and husband, Bill, Denison, TX, Linda Faye Tipton, Ft. Blackmore, VA, nieces, Jenna Smith and husband, Talmadge, Austin, TX, Joy Walters and husband, Bradley, Denison, TX, nephew, Paul Crabtree and wife, Audrey, Arvada, CO, great nephews, Corbin and Garrison Walters and Augustus Smith, great nieces, Georgia Pearl Walters and Olivia Joy Smith; aunts, Ann Quillen, IN, Nellie Custer and husband, Jim, MO and Opal Peters, Kingsport, TN, an uncle, Worley Lane, Ft. Blackmore, VA, along with a host of friends and loving relatives.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Coy Butler and the Rev. Marvin Egan officiating. The Clinch River Boys will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the Peters Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Nephews and cousins will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside service.
