Bascom Slemp Peters, 98, entered into rest August 18, 2009 at the Wexford House.
He was born in Scott County, VA to the late Robert Lincoln Peters and Sara Adeline Rosenbaum Peters.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Macie Mae Taylor Peters; daughters, Dorothy Adinolfi, Dana Bowen and Wanda Jean Peters; three sons, Allen, Preston and Cecil Peters; grandson, Buddy Adinolfi; great granddaughter, Macie Peters; five sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Jo Peters, Gate City, VA, Judy Peters and Vic Howard, Greenback, TN; four sons and daughters-in-law, Claude Peters, Gate City, VA, Harlan Peters and Velma, Kingsport, TN, Gary Peters and Barbara, Hiltons, VA, Nelson and Brenda Peters, Kingsport, TN; daughters-in-law, Ruth Peters, York, PA, Elizabeth Peters, Manville, VA and Thelma Peters, Church Hill, TN; 33 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 37 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the home of his son, Nelson and Brenda Peters, Kingsport, TN. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Richard K. Dice officiating. Music will be provided by Gerald Compton and Brittany Peters.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Oak Glen Baptist Church Cemetery, Yuma, VA. The family will meet at 12:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Kings Highway Temple, 926 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665.
