Nancy Ruth Thompson Perry, 92, Ft. Blackmore, VA went to be with her Savior, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her son's home.
Ruth was born in Scott County, VA on May 7, 1920 to the late Thomas and Callie Rhodes Thompson. She was a devoted Christian who let God's light shine through her daily walk.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Austin Paul Perry, Sr., two sons, Austin Paul Perry, Jr., and an infant son, Harold Perry; an infant daughter, Shirley Perry; brother, William "Orbin" Thompson; and sister, Vida Hood preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Annie Jean Overbay; James (Rita) Perry, Dorothy (Lawrence) Winstead; Don (Brenda) Perry; 10 grandchildren, Debra (Randy) Roberts, Ricky (Kathy) Overbay, Keith Overbay, Jr., Rebecca (Tony) Thompson, Gail Overbay, Janet (Kenneth) McNew, Cindy (Mickey) Vaughn, Cora (Kevin) Horne, Bradley (Kalie) Perry, and Andrew (Kaila) Perry; 13 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Velma Thompson; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Perry McMurray.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, James. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Terry Rhoton and Rev. Eddie Whitley officiating. James McConnell will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Houston Dingus Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The Hass brothers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Indian Path Hospital, Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Dixie Qualls with Total Home Care/Hospice, and to her special caretaker, Kathy Hass, and everyone for all the prayers, calls, and visits.
