Joan Carter Pease - Duffield, VA
Joan Carter Pease, 90, of Duffield, VA passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN.
Mrs. Pease was born in Scott County, Virginia on August 3, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Horton and Etta (Spivey) Carter.
She was a graduate of Rye Cove High School and Lincoln Memorial University. She was a retired teacher with the Scott County School System with almost 40 years of service, and a faithful member of Three Bells United Methodist Church in Duffield, VA.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Thurman Pease and her brother Sam Stuart Carter preceded her in death.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Michael Keith Pease, Fairview, VA; sister Phyllis Carter Dunn, Birdsnest, VA; brother and sister-in-law Arles and Louise Pease, Kingsport, TN; special friends Sue Vaughn, and Joyce C. Starnes, both of Duffield, VA; along with several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sean Bailey and Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Music will be presented by Wayne Bishop and Jim Gates.
A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Holston View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. in order to go in procession to the cemetery.
Billy France, Stevie Darnell, George McDavid, David Robbins, and Paul Pendleton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be James Miller, William Wayne Bishop, Sr., Benny Bishop, Kent Russell, Royden Russell, and Freddie Crabtree.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions can be made to Three Bells United Methodist Church, 308 Fugate Street, Duffield, VA 24244 in the name of Mrs. Joan Pease.
