Thelma Owens, 78, Blackwater, VA passed away, Monday, March 19, 2018 at her residence.
Thelma was born in Scott County, VA on May 5, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Claude and Ella (Collier) Bledsoe
In addition to her parents, her husband, Kermit Owens; son Dewayne Owens; sister, Dorothy Pearcy and brothers, Elmer and Jerry Bledsoe preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Owens (Allen) Hood, Kingsport, TN; son Jason Allen Owens, Blackwater, VA; daughter-in-law Michelle Owens, Surgoinsville, TN; grandchildren Ashley (Tyler) Bird, Mt. Carmel, TN, Alex McNew, Gate City, VA, Miranda Owens (Tyler) Estep, Snowflake, VA, and Meekah Owens, Surgoinsville, TN; great-grandchild, Keegan Bird; sisters, Lettie Carter, Blackwater, VA, Lucille Mendenhall, Duffield, VA, Marie Lawson, Gate City, VA, Shirley (Jack) Bledsoe, Blackwater, VA, Elsie (Mike) Childress, Blackwater, VA, and Regina (James)Tilley, Talbot, TN; brother, Claude (Patty) Bledsoe, Jr., Duffield, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at her residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evg. Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Hobbs Cemetery, Blackwater, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, it was the wish of Thelma that donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or to the Kingsport Cancer Center at Allandale.
