James “Jack” Owens, 73 Gate City, VA
James Jack Owens, also known as Pappy Jack, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with his family and friends by his side on February 13, 2016.
Jack loved to play his guitar and sing for the Lord and lived to put a smile on everyone’s face. He traveled to many churches to share his gift and love for gospel music. He’s had many friends down through the years that he’s played and sang with and being too many to name each one, he loved and cherished each one for the joy they brought to his life.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Faye Baker Owens; his dad, Cecil Casteel; his mom, Leona Owens; 3 brothers, Grady and Tuck Owens and Earl Casteel; 1 sister, Kathy.
Jack is survived by his daughters Sherry Owens and fiance, Tim Gibson of Weber city, Michelle Grizzle and husband Tommy of Gate City, VA; one son, Travis Owens and wife Liz of Hiltons, VA; 1 brother, Wayne Casteel; sister, Carol; The mother of his children, Margaret Owens; special friend Shelby Owens; grandchildren, Adam Berry and wife Taylor, Anita Berry, Judd Grizzle, Amber Grizzle and Alex Owens, Jacob and Samuel Darnell; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Braxton Berry, Adrianna Grizzle and Riley Gibson.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Tommy and Michelle Grizzle. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Glenn Lovell, Oakley Hartsock Jr. and others officiating. Jack’s Sisters in Christ and Cause One will provide the music.
Graveside services will be at Carter’s Cemetery in Stoney Creek in the Fort Blackmore Community at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Tommy Grizzle, Tim Gibson, Adam Berry, Travis Owens, Michael Davis and Cody Wallen will serve as pallbearers. Friends and Family will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Carol Fleenor, who has gone above and beyond to help Jack in any way she could with his illness. Also a special thank you to Anita Ketron and Ashley Ward for all they’ve done to put a smile on his face, he loved you both like you where his own daughters. Thank you to Morgan Morangello for being such a big help in the last week of his life, even though it was hard seeing him so sick, you stayed by his side until the end.
