Joyce C. Osborne, 78, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born August 11, 1930. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Carter; her mother, Gladys Carter Blackwell and stepfather, Kemp Blackwell.
She was a teacher and administrator in the Scott County School System for 36 years. She taught at Shoemaker High School and Dungannon High School. She also served as Guidance Counselor for Dungannon High School, Scott County Vocational School and Gate City High School. She was dedicated to providing the best opportunities for her students. She was a member of the Dungannon High School Alumni and the Scott County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a member of the Dungannon Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William L. Osborne, Dungannon, VA; brother, William J. Carter, Dungannon, VA; aunt, Ina Martin, Kingsport, TN; nephew, David Carter, Huntington, NY; nieces, Mary Street, Kingsport, TN and Jessica Eidson, Mooresburg, TN.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be at 7 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins and Rev. Larry Beavers officiating.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. The family will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Gillenwater, Carson Hill, David Carter, Buddy Beavers, Danny Mann and Phil Osborne.
