Hazel Oaks

Hazel Edna (Clendenin) Oaks, 90, of Kingsport, TN, left this earth to be with her Lord on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Wexford House, where she resided for four years. Hazel will be remembered for her sweet smile and her feisty personality. She was a member of Bays Mountain Church at Maple Oak, where she enjoyed singing and praising the Lord.
She was born in Lee County, VA on October 8, 1921 to Charlie and Bertha Clendenin. She lived and worked in Gate City, VA for many years. She later worked at Tri-City Linen & Diaper Service and State Line Market.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Emmitt Lee Oaks; her parents, Charlie Clendenin and Bertha Clendenin Booker; sisters, Ollie Moore, Vesta Mullins and Rena Stapleton; brothers, Earl Clendenin and Buddy Ray Bishop.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Delores Williams and husband Lester of Kingsport, TN; brother-in-law, Wayne Oaks of Kingsport, TN; sister-in-law, Betty Ward of Oklahoma City, OK; two granddaughters, Shelley Williams of Johnson City, TN and Amber Anderson of Prattville, AL; two great grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Wing 100 nurses at Wexford House for their care of Hazel and to Dr. Marta Wayt for her kindness and wonderful healthcare.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home on Sunday September 16, 2012 and other times at the daughter's residence. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Charlie Jarrett officiating.
Graveside services for Mrs. Oaks will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. The family will meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m.. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
