Ronald (Ron) Joseph Nitrio, 53, Duffield, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
Ron was born in San Francisco, California on June 6, 1959 to late Joseph Anthony and Helen Petrovsky Nitrio. Ron resided in California until he joined the Navy in 1982. He served three years active duty and three years reserves. He was stationed in Williamsburg, VA in the Navy Cargo Handling Port Group. After the Navy, Ron moved to Southwest VA. He was employed by G4S Government Solutions.
Ron enjoyed riding his Harley, especially in the mountains where he thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. It was on a lot of these trips that his love for photography showed. He saw beauty everywhere and captured it in his many photos. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle.
In addition to his parents, Joseph and Helen Nitrio, his paternal grandparents, Anthony and Rose Nitrio; maternal grandparents, Kasimir and Anna Petrovsky; and father-in-law, James Jennings preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Barbara Jennings Nitrio, Duffield, VA; son, Scott Anthony Nitrio, of the home; sister, Janeene Schultz and husband, Phillip, Reno, NV; mother-in-law, Lola Geneva Jennings, Duffield, VA; brothers-in-law, Junior Jennings and wife, Barbara, Duffield, VA, Larry Jennings and wife, Linda, Ft. Blackmore, VA, Randy Jennings and wife, Shelby, Gate City, VA, and Edward Jennings and wife, Janet, Duffield, VA; special cousins, Walaine Hankins and Richard Petrovsky; along with a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews that loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Geneva Jennings. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Terry Rhoton officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Hall Cemetery in the Stanleytown community of Duffield, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Ed Jennings will provide fiddle music at the graveside service.
Junior Jennings, Larry Jennings, Randy Jennings, Edward Jennings, Randall Jennings, and Patrick Jennings will serve as pallbearers. His fellow co-workers and John Bush will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery led by the Patriot Guard Motorcycle Club.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Bristol Medical Center and Wellmont Hospice for the compassion they have shown Ron and his family.
