Faye Hurd Nelson, 90, Duffield, VA passed away, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Kingston Assisted Living Center.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Scott County, VA on July 17, 1925 to the late Irene Wilson and Lucian Ballard Hurd. Mrs. Nelson was member of Cedar Grove Independent Missionary Baptist Church, where she was saved at an early age, and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #86, Gate City, VA, as well as a member of the Pattonsville Rebekah Lodge #82, Duffield, VA, where she served as noble grand in 1982 and afterwards served as secretary until closing of the lodge. While a member there, she was awarded the Declaration of Chivalry. She lived in Fairfax, Va. with her husband for many years and later returned to Scott County, VA.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Jack Nelson and her brother, Samuel Frank Hurd also preceded her in death.
She is survived by brother, Wayne K. Hurd and wife Jolene, Duffield, VA; sister-in-law, Helen Hurd, Kingsport, TN; nieces, Angela Spratlin and husband, Steven, Phoenix, AZ, Susan Negrotto and husband Scott, Kingsport, TN; nephews, Gregory Hurd and wife Tina, Jefferson City, TN, Phil Hurd and wife Coleen, Charlotte, NC, Tim Hurd and wife Shannon, Kingsport, TN, Stephen Hurd; special niece and nephews, Whitney Hurd and Jacob Spratlin, Kingsport, TN, John Spratlin, Phoenix, AZ.
The family would like to thank her extended family at the Kingston Center where the caregivers gave her so much love and care.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Rebekah Lodge #86 Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Fred White officiating. Angela Spratlin along with Cedar Grove Church Choir will provide the music.
Graveside services will immediately follow Rebekah Service, Powers Cemetery in Robinette Valley. Nephews and Family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Grove Independent Missionary Baptist church, C/O Wiley I. Hurd, 4619 Robinette Valley Rd. Duffield, VA 24244
