Nell Allen Sloan

Nell Allen Sloan, Duffield, Va., 88, born May 12, 1936, was called home September 2, 2024. 

She was the daughter of Lewis and Lola (McCoy) Allen. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Hubert Sloan for 68 years. 

She was a caregiver for many years taking care of family members both old and young. Prior to that she had worked as a cook and at a local factory. Her greatest gifts were her grandchildren, which she adored. They kept her young at heart (she was the cool Mamaw). She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and organizing her pictures.

In addition to her parents and husband, her son Larry Sloan and sister June Robinette preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Donnie Sloan, Duffield, VA; daughter, Colleen (George) McDavid, Gate City, Va; grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Bishop, Jessica Sloan, Jon (Kassondra) Lawson, Jordan Lawson, and the granddaughter she raised Monteia (Aaron) Gillenwater; brother and sister in law, James Harold (Elaine) Allen, sister in law, Lucy Johnson along with great grandchildren, Katelyn Thomas, Landon and Kaelyn Lawson, Jackson and Zoey Carter, Maci, McKinlee, and Cree Lawson. Plus, several nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes the family will have a private graveside service at Powell Valley cemetery Thursday September 5, 2024, at 10:30 am, with Evangelist Garry Hood officiating. The family will then go to the Daniel B. Robinette cemetery in Blackwater for the burial of her sister, June Robinette, that passed away last week. The services will be followed by a family gathering to celebrate the lives of sisters, June Robinette and Nell Sloan.
