Rev. Elbert Parker Munsey — Gate City, VA
Rev. Elbert Parker Munsey, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, December 19, 2011, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Mr. Munsey was born in Scott County, VA. He was the son of the late Irene Parker Munsey and Henry Munsey and the grandson of the late Rev. Kemper Munsey.
Elbert retired from the research Department at the Tennessee Eastman. He was a lifetime member of both the GC Fire Department where he served as an officer and the Scott County Rescue Squad. He was an EMT in the state of VA and TN. He was a member of the National EMT's and an EMT instructor in the state of VA. He also served as Scout Master for several years. He was an Ordained Minister and he served his Lord as Children's Church Pastor for over 30 years. He taught children about the Lord at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Holy Mountain Baptist Church, Gate City First Baptist Church and Community Fellowship Baptist Church. In his senior years he shared Gods Love to Children as "Papaw Candy Man" at Higher Ground Baptist Church.
He was a loving husband and father. Elbert is survived by his loving wife Nan "Nancy" Munsey; sons, Billy and Cindy Munsey, Kingsport, TN, David and Yvonne Munsey, Elizabethton, TN, Jeff Munsey, Cleveland, NC, Tim and Pam Munsey , Gate City, VA, Todd and Missy Munsey, Cleveland, NC; grandchildren, Stacie and Jason, Ashlie and David Baker, Brittany and John, Brandon, Michael, Ashley, David Blake, Timmy, Morgan, Jon, Dylan, Kelsey, Courtney, Lakin and Sarah; and great grandchildren, Lillie, Stacia and Kaylee.
Visitation will be held at Higher Ground Baptist Church in Kingsport, TN Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 4-7 p.m., service will follow at 7 p.m. Dr. Phil Hoskins and Assistant Pastor, Dr. Shannon Salyer will be officiating, music will be provided by Tommy Schuler, Joey Lane, Jamie Lane and Barry Epps. The family will also receive friends at the residence of Tim Munsey.
The Family will meet at the Gate City Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011 to go in procession to the graveside. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the 5th Floor ICU unit and Step Down Unit for the excellent care of Rev. Munsey.
