Hershell James Mitchell, Sr., 77, Dungannon, VA passed away, Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Hershell was born in Scott County, VA on December 7, 1943, and was the son of the late Charlie Ervin and Madge (McMillian) Mitchell.
He retired from Dungannon Elementary School as a custodian.
In addition to his parents, his son, David Juell Mitchell; and his brother, Hurley Carter preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife, Melissa (Stone) Mitchell, Dungannon, VA; sons, Hershell James Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Tina, Gate City, VA, Andy Stone, Dungannon, VA, Matt Stone, Dungannon, VA, and Jackie Perry, Dungannon, VA; daughters, Frankie Tipton and husband, Jack, Church Hill, TN and Rachel Stone, Dungannon, VA; 16 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; twin sister, Shirley Lampkins, Abingdon, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Mitchell and Salyers Cemetery, Nickelsville, VA with Rev. James Mann and Rev. Billy Dooley officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends are asked to meet at the Mitchell and Salyers Cemetery at 2:45 p.m., Friday for the graveside service.
Due to the ongoing COVID Pandemic, the family asks that those attending wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
