Robert Lee (Bobby) Minnich, Jr., 67, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital.
Mr. Minnich was born in Gate City, Virginia on February 23, 1943, son of the late Robert L. Sr., and Reba Minnich.
Bobby was formerly Executive Director of Yadkin County Council on Aging, Inc. and presently Executive Director of B & L Advanced Home Care, Inc. He graduated from East Tennessee University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and did graduate work at Duke University, University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Greensboro, Livingston College, and North Carolina State University.
Mr. Minnich was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, 1965 – 1967. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was of the Baptist faith.
Bobby was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving is his sister and her husband, Martha and Jim Roberts of Johnson City, TN; a nephew and his wife, Greg and Lisa Roberts of Gurnee, IL; a great niece, Kendyl; a niece and her husband, Amy and Corey Harstvedt of Oconomowoc, WI; and several aunts and cousins.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating.
A military graveside will be conducted at the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 of Kingsport, TN and Post #265 of Gate City, VA at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 9, 2011. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
