Mr. Rufus Miller, 93, Gate City, VA passed away, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 Indian Path Medical Center.
Mr. Miller was born in Scott County, VA on October 2, 1917 to the late Henry Harmon Miller and Rosa Lee Walker Miller. He was a 60 year member of the Masonic Catlett Lodge #35 of Gate City, VA and a member of the Rayburn Lodge #157of the Odd Fellows of Duffield, VA.
Mr. Miller retired from the Meade Corporation after 38 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Guy Nell Arwood, and second wife, Anna Nell Mullins; an infant son, James Miller; sisters, Bonnie Kaylor, Pearl Robertson, Ada Roberts, and Della Roberts; and brother, Kemp Miller. He is survived by his daughter, Darla Miller, Mt. Carmel, TN; step daughter, Sandra Stiltner and husband, Sam, Gate City, VA; grandson, Tommy Collins and wife, Amy, Atlanta, GA; brother, Denver Miller, Kingsport, TN; step granddaughter, Leann Vermillion and husband, Scotty; step grandsons, Anthony Templeton and wife, Tammy, and Richard Templeton; step great grandchildren, Joel, Dustin, Talia, Amanda, and Jay Templeton, and Sophie and Drew Vermillion; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Gate City. Odd Fellow services will be conducted at 6:45 p.m. by members of the Rayburn Lodge #157 of Duffield, VA, followed by Masonic services conducted by members of the Catlett Lodge #35 of Gate City. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Andy Barnes and the Rev. Jeff DeBoard officiating. Marcus and Bill Smith and Andrea Sheppard will provide the music. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. Deacons and Deacons Emeritius of the First Baptist Church of Gate City will serve as honorary pallbearers.
