Dewey Miller, 67 Duffield, VA passed away, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his residence after an extended illness.

Mr. Miller was born in Scott County, VA on September 1, 1944 to the late Ralph and Gertrude Hall Miller. He was a six year veteran of the United States Army, serving one year in Vietnam as a Communications Specialist.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Alma Stevens, Glois Casterline; two infant sisters, Betty and Margaret Miller; and a brother, Tommy Miller preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Alan Miller and mother, Louise Taylor, Church Hill, TN; step-sons, Gordon Light and wife, Leaine, Kingsport, TN, Frank Light and wife, Renee, Gate City, VA, and Kevin Light and Stephanie, Hartsville, SC; six step-grandchildren; sister, Carmen Shupe and husband, John Henry, Duffield, VA; brothers, Clint Miller and wife, Phyllis, Duffield, VA and Troy Miller and wife, Rose, Duffield, VA; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Kathy Arwood, Kelly Fugate, Shannon Bishop, Judy McPhearson and Kristy Fritz.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Garry Hood and Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Gordon Light, Frank Light, Kevin Light, Terry Hilton, Norman Bishop, and Will Earwood will serve as pallbearers. Shannon Bishop and Bill Earwood will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Saturday to go in procession to the graveside service.
