Loyd C. Mendenhall – Duffield, VA
Loyd Clayborn Mendenhall, 82, Duffield, VA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Mendenhall was born in Lee County, VA on November 29, 1932 to the late Jessee and Cora Bledsoe Mendenhall.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Charlie, Bradley, George, Ralph, and Claudy Mendenhall; and sisters, Edith Lawson, Ella Mae Bowen and Mary Lumpkins preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Lucille Bledsoe Mendenhall, Duffield, VA; daughter, Brenda Ware and husband, Greg, Kingsport, TN; son, Randy Mendenhall and wife, Melissa, Nickelsville, VA; special granddaughter, Madison Ware, Kingsport, TN; sister, Jean McPherson and husband, James, Mt. Airy, NC; sister-in-law, Shelby Mendenhall, Blackwater, VA; along with many special nieces and nephews; a host of friends, especially his breakfast buddies in Duffield.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley officiating. The Hood family will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Phil Broadwater, James Thacker, Vernon Free, Allen Gibson, Angus Williams, and Floyd Pruette will serve as pallbearers. John Henry Shupe, Loyd Love, Jack Tomlinson, Craig Mendenhall, Bill Sturgill, Jerry Bishop, and Karl Mendenhall will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the entire staff on the 2nd Floor CICU and the doctors of HMG, and Dr. Shipstone for the wonderful care they gave to him.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
