Douglass Boyd Meade

Boyd Meade, 82, of Gate City, VA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 27, after a period of declining health.
Born and raised in the Twin Springs community of Nickelsville, VA, he was the son of the late Drexel and Effie Castle Meade. After graduating from Nickelsville High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He later retired from AFG’s Greenland plant after 36+ years of service. He was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, serving as deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Harvey Addington.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Henry Meade; son, Richard Meade; and daughter and her husband, Angie and Steve Fields. He is also survived by a sister, Hazel Addington, and 2 brothers and their wives, Buford and Shirley Meade and Kenneth and Clarice Meade. Boyd is also survived by nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
The family wishes to convey special thanks to the staff of HMG’s Weber City office for their care of Boyd over the years. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Alma Edwards for her compassionate, loving care and assistance over the past months. And a very special thank you to Mrs. Meade’s sister, Clara Jessee, for all you’ve done and continue to do.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., March 3, 2018, at Gate City Funeral Home. After a brief ceremony conducted by Rev. Larry Spivey, graveside services will be held immediately afterward at Holston View Cemetery.
