Ruby Clyde (Dockery) McNutt, 96, Kingsport, TN, passed away, Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Holston Manor Nursing Home.
Ruby Clyde was born in Scott County, VA on February 29, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ava Lawson Dockery.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Ernest Lee McNutt; daughter, Nancy Berniece McNutt; granddaughter, Brenda Ahlquist ; sisters, Lizzie Summey, Ruth Booher, and Eve Summey; and brothers, Carl Dockery, Wright Dockery, Leonard “Ben” Dockery, Robert “Bob” Dockery preceded her in death.
Ruby Clyde lived a full life and always had a smile on her face. She was never one to sit still which was evidenced by the book that she wrote, The Rough Road and her appearance in the movie, The River with Sissy Spacek and Mel Gibson, She loved dancing and loved country music, and knew Johnny and June Carter Cash. She met many country stars and loved going to the Grand Ole Opry every chance she got.
We know in our hearts she is with the love of her life, Earnest McNutt.
She is survived by her children, Rita Fletcher and husband Darrell, Kingsport, TN and sons, Donald McNutt and wife Barbara, Bossier City, Louisiana and Benny McNutt, Kingsport TN; grandchildren, Adina McKenzie and husband Chris, David McNutt and wife Lori, Alisha Hall, Eddie McNutt and wife Jennifer, Amy Monroe and husband Josh, Shelly Anderson and husband Eric, Donald McNutt, Jr and wife Erica; 15 great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Toke Hensley will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, VA. Josh Monroe, Matthew McNutt, Jared McNutt, Hunter McNut, Justin Hall and Jeffery Collins will serve as pallbearers. Nathan Monroe and Mason McNutt will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
