Paul Glenn McNew
Paul McNew, 84, of Lebanon, VA, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
A lifelong resident of the Big Moccasin Valley area of Russell County, VA, he was born on September 10, 1929 to the late Con and Arah Glenn McNew. He was a member and also a trustee of Bethany United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Stuart Masonic Lodge #224. Paul began work at AFG Industries in Kingsport, TN in 1956 and retired in 1991. He enjoyed working on his farm, raising a garden, and woodworking after retiring.
Paul McNew was a reserved, quiet man devoted to his family and his church. Paul’s quiet dignity inspired admiration for a man who would always do the right thing. May all who knew and loved Paul continue to be inspired by a life well lived.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Neal McNew and Wood McNew.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Linda Hilton McNew, Lebanon, VA, daughter, Nikki Phillips and husband David, Lebanon, VA, and grandson, Lance Phillips and wife Jessica, and precious great-granddaughter Olivia, Abingdon, VA. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Louise McNew and Audrey McNew, Kingsport, TN, Patsy Craft, Gate City, VA, and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dwight McNew, Keith McNew, Ken McNew, Ryland Craft, Rick Sumner, Andrew Hartsock, Brian Hartsock, and Aaron Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers include men of Bethany United Methodist Church and Glen Litton, Floyd Johnson, Jeff McAmis, and Bobby Johnson.
The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral Home on Thursday, August 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites following the visitation. Funeral services will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church, Friday, August 8 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Leonard Smith and Rev. Curtis Frye officiating. He will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Glenn Family Cemetery located on his farm.
