Alta Marcelina Hammonds – Madison, TN
Alta Marcelina Hammonds McNeese, 68 of Gray, TN, resided in Madison, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord at Skyline Hospital on July 10, 2020.
A loving woman, known as ‘Mama’ to those who needed one, with her home open to anyone in need. A smile for everyone, always finding a way to make you laugh. She was a hard worker, loving daughter, sister but most of all mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee on July 16, 1951. She was the daughter of the late H.A. “Bill” and Lillian Marie Hammonds. In addition, to her parents, her husband Odie McNeese; sister, Patsy Hammonds, brothers; Ellis, Glen, and Fred Hammonds preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters; Vickie James, Tuscumbia, Alabama, Angel Hale, Madison, Tennessee, and daughter (granddaughter) Destinee McNeese, Madison, Tennessee. Sons; Anthony Story Jr., wife Jennifer, Bristol, Tennessee, Dewayne Lance, Madison, Tennessee, and son (grandson), Jacob Hale; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren, sisters; Erma McCulley, and Johnny, Gray, Tennessee, Lora Dishner, and Curtis, Gray, Tennessee. brother; Keith Hammonds, and Arlene, Gray Tennessee, along with several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2020 in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Combs officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Hammonds Cemetery in the Manville community of Scott County, VA. Cody Lackey, Cory Carlile, Zachary Story, Jack Davis, Hagan Hunt, Michael Hammonds, Shannon Hammonds, and Shannon Hammonds, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
