Dewey Lee McMurray, 78, Hiltons, VA passed away, Wednesday, April 09, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Dewey was born in Scott County, VA on August 6, 1935 to the late Sylvester Glen and Ruth Marie McMurray. He was a retired School Bus Driver for the Scott County School System and spent his later years farming.
In addition to his parents, his brothers, Perry McMurray, Hagan McMurray, Garvey McMurray, and Woodrow McMurray preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy McMurray, of the home; sons, Shelby McMurray and wife, Brenda, Church Hill, TN; Leon McMurray and wife, Sheilla, Hiltons, VA; Victor McMurray and wife, Sandra, Hiltons, VA; Brad McMurray and wife, Deanna, Kingsport, TN; Mike McMurray and wife, Rhonda, Church Hill, TN; grandchildren, Anthony and wife, Missy, Josh, Randall and wife, Jessica. Morgan, Daniel, Ben, Zander, Donovan, and Maria McMurray; great grandchildren, Ellie and Anna McMurray; step grandchildren, Ocean Rhoton, Jamie King, and Tiffany Edens; sisters, Hazel Wilson, Bristol, VA, Genevieve McMurray and husband, Caleb, Hiltons, VA, Peggy Hughes and husband, Ralph, Blountville, TN, Faye Sturgill and husband, Robert, Hiltons, VA, Gaye Williams and husband, Charles, Crewe, VA, and Patsy Laughlin and husband, Darrell, Kingsport, TN; brother, Gale McMurray and wife, Teresa, Hiltons, VA; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Ronnie Horne, Evangelist Rex McMurray, Pastor Fred Robinette, and Pastor Chris Cody officiating. Singing will be provided by The Bowlin Family.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m, Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Dewey McMurray Family Cemetery Hiltons, VA. Morgan McMurray, Chris Carter, Scott Carter, Brandon Carter, Ernie McMurray, Jack Hobbs, Jr., Wayne Yates, Daniel McMurray, and Ben McMurray will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the graveside service.
