Okley McDavid, 90, Gate City, VA passed away, Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, TN.
Mr. McDavid was born in Scott County, VA on May 28, 1922 to the late Charles Engle and Mattie Jane Horton McDavid.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a medic in field hospitals in WW II. He was retired from Holston Defense.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary Jennings McDavid; granddaughters, Cindy Walker and Jennifer McDavid; sisters, Kate Tipton, Eugenia Rhoton, Lillian Bloomer, and Viola McDavid; and brothers, Claude, Kelly, and Glen McDavid preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Janis Reed and fiancé Jack Requa, Falls Church, VA, Linda Hobbs and husband, Charles, Kingsport, TN, and Patricia Hale and husband, Jim, Kingsport, TN; sons, George McDavid and wife, Colleen Gate City, VA and Jack McDavid and wife, Stephanie, Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Mark, Angie and Mitchell Brown, Greg, Clint, Jason, Laura, Jeremy and Mary; great grandchildren, Josh, Megan, Elizabeth, Dylan and Mitchell Lee Brown; along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ed Blair and Rev. Paul Lane officiating.
Military Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The children would like to thank the staff at Indian Path Medical Center, and Dr. Matthews and staff at the Regional Cancer Center for the loving care given to Dad.
